Disney Classic (part 2)

Author: disneytalks Categories: Music, Walt Disney

This is the continue of my previous post, about the video I’ve found at Youtube. Enjoy!

This video is a little different from the first Disney Classics video, but still holds the same meaning. The begining of the film, we are transported to the beauty of Africa as we see clips from "The Lion King". Then we suddenly go to Greece, where we see the love hardships of Hercules. As the song suggests, many Disney characters refuse to give into love, such as Beast, Mike Weslowski, Donald Duck and more. Then we travel to the Motion Picture world of Disney as we visit the first and remake of "Parent Trap". As their counterparts try to influence them into love, our love-denying Disney characters fight against love until they finally give in, and all the characters of Disney come together in LOVE. One of the famous love stories, "Beauty and the Beast" comes to life as we begin to travel from Disney movie to Disney Movie. Suddnely we see Snow White and her wishes for love, then Sleeping Beauty seeks love and eventually finds it. In the end, we see all the famous couples and love stories of Disney come together as Mickey and Minnie seal the deal with a kiss! The medley of songs are copyrighted to "Disney on the Record" Broadway Show and Soundtrack. Enjoy!!!

Here’s the video!

Hidden Mickey in Cinderella

Author: disneytalks Categories: Characters, Hidden Mickeys, Movies, Walt Disney

As you can know in my previous blog about the song in Walt Disney Production: Cinderella, a song entitled Oh Sing Sweet Nightingale, there is a hidden mickey here. It’s clearly seen in bubble when Cinderella is mopping the floor (right before Lucifer the cat make it dirty again).

To make it clearer, I’ve captured it :) See below!

Oh, Sing Sweet Nightingale

Author: disneytalks Categories: Characters, Hidden Mickeys, Music, Walt Disney

Walt Disney fans!

If you have watched Cinderella, I’m sure that you know that Lady Tremaine wants her daughter to have talent in music. She is telling Anastasia to play flute and Drizella to sing.

The result?

Even their cat, Lucifer, hates it!

But Cinderella sings it beautifully while she’s doing her chores. With bubbles appears as Hidden Mickey in this movie, Cinderella sing sweet nightingale…

The words and lyrics in this movie are written by Mack David, Al Hoffman, and Jerry Livingston. Walt Disney uses Ilene Woods to voice Cinderella and Rhoda Williams as Drizella.

Here is the lyrics, and below you can watch the clip… ;)

OH SING SWEET NIGHTINGALE

Oh, sing sweet nightingale
Sing sweet nightingale
High above me
Sing sweet nightingale

High above
Oh, sing sweet nightingale
Sing sweet nightingale, high
Oh sing sweet nightingale
Sing sweet nightingale
Sing sweet
Oh, sing sweet nightingale, sing
Oh, sing sweet nightingale
Oh, sing sweet
Oh, sing
Oh, sing sweet nightingale
Sing sweet nightingale
High

A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes

Author: disneytalks Categories: Disney in Me, Music, Walt Disney

Here I write the lyrics of A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes, which is sung by Ilene Woods and the Mice chorus in one of Disney princess movie, Cinderella. Walt Disney worked together with Mark David, Al Hoffman, and Jerry Livingston in writing this song. This song teaches us to never give up to get what we’ve been dreaming of. Sometimes when I’m feeling down, or I feel that I could not get out from my problems, I just sing this song and pray, then I can move on. Hopefully you also can be like me and Cinderella. :) Enjoy the song! (Don’t forget, say NO to piracy! Get the song legal here)

A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes

A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you’re fast asleep
In dream you will lose your heartache
Whatever you wish for, you keep
Have faith in your dreams and someday
Your rainbow will come smiling through
No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
The dream that you wish will come true

… the dream that I wish will come true

No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
The dream that you wish will come true

"The song is copyrighted by Walt Disney Music Company (ASCAP)"

Cinderella, one of Disney Princess I like. It is inspired from of fairy tales by Charles Perrault. It is one of the most famous fairy tales in the world. I’ve often wished I had a fairy god mother to help me through my problems. Cinderella teaches me to keep on dreaming, no matter how hard it is. The son The Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes. Well, everybody must have had dreams. It is quite simple, but according to Cinderella, the dream is our wish which is made by our hearts when we are sleeping. in other words, what we really want is reflected in our dream. No matter how hard we try to get our dreams, we have to keep on believing and trying. Then it will come true.

ABOUT THE MOVIE

Cinderella and its real cover in 1950

Walt Disney made Cinderella in 1950, directed by Clyde Geronimi, Hamilton Luske, and Wilfred Jackson. It was produced by (of course) Walt Disney production. It was first released to the theaters on February 15, 1950 by RKO Radio Pictures. And it has been republished again in form of Two-Disc Special Edition DVD. It also received three Academy Award nominations for Best Sound, Original Music Score and Best Song for "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo".

ABOUT THE STORY

Cinderella as the maid in her own house

Cinderella lives happily with his father, after her mother passed away. When her father is getting married for a second time, Cinderella gets a new mother, as well as two stepsisters. But soon after that, Cinderella’s father also passes away. So now she has to live with her stepmother and her two stepsisters. Now Cinderella has to live under her mother’s order. She has to work as a maid in her own house, to fulfill her stepmother’s and stepsisters’ selfishness. Even the stepmother’s cat, Lucifer, lives happier than her. Her only friends are the mice, the birds, and her faithful dog.

Lady Tremaine, Cinderella's step mother

In early scene when Cinderella gets bigger, it is told that Cinderella had a dream, that someday she will be happy and can find her true love. She hates being treated unfairly by her  stepmother, Lady Tremaine, and her stepsisters, Drizella and Anastasia, and even the big clock in the church tower which always tells her that he has to work again. She tells her dream to her animal friends, and sings. The song is The Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes. She sings it to her animal friends, and in this scene also, Cinderella is going to bath helped by the birds while she is humming the song. Of course, then she has to work for her mother again.

Cinderella’s stepmother spoils her two daughter. So one day, when the Prince invites all girls in his kingdom to join the ball, Lady Tremaine gives her two daughter awesome dresses, but she doesn’t give Cinderella anything. In fact, she gives Cinderella more jobs to do, so Cinderella will not be able to prepare her dress to the ball.

Her animal friends gives her pity and they want to help her. When Drizella and Anastasia throw ribbon and necklace because they think it does not good enough to attract the Prince, the mice (Jaq and Gus) take it. With their friends (still mice and birds), they start to make a beautiful dress for Cinderella while she is working.

The mice want to help Cinderella making a gownThe mice are working and singing together with the birdsCinderella is ready to go to the royal ball now

How surprised Cinderella is when she comes to her room and finds that her friends has made her a beautiful dress so she can go to the ball. Hurried, she is getting dressed and tries to catch up her step mother and sisters. Unfortunately, her step mother and sisters, who are afraid that Cinderella’s beauty will defeat them, tear her gown to shreds, leaving Cinderella to run to the back of the garden in tears while her step family attends the royal ball.

The Fairy God Mother comes to help Cinderella Every good people deserves the best, so does Cinderella. When she is crying, the fairy god mother comes and help her. While singing "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo", she transforms the mice into horses, Bruno the dog into a footman, Major the horse into a coachman, a pumpkin into the carriage, and transforms her torn dress into a beautiful blue dress with glass slippers. Her godmother also tells Cinderella that the spell will be broken in midnight, so she has to leave the ball before midnight. That is enough for Cinderella to attend the ball.

At the royal ball, Cinderella’s beauty soon attract Prince’s attention. They fall in love and dance together, forgetting the time. The clock chimes twelve times. Cinderella flees to the carriage, leaving one of her slippers accidentally.

The Prince meets Cinderella Cinderella and the Prince are dancing - So This is LoveCinderella leaves her slipper accidentally

The Prince doesn’t give up. He orders the Duke to find the girl who dances with her in previous night by looking the girl whose foot fits the slipper. The girl who fits the glass slipper will marry the Prince. Hearing that, Lady Tremaine wants one of her daughter becomes the princess. She also locks Cinderella in her attic bedroom.

Cinderella tries the slipper and it fits! Of course, no one could ever fit the glass slipper (is it true??) including Cinderella’s stepsisters. Jaq and Gus know that Cinderella has to be helped. They steal Cinderella’s room key so she can get out. When Cinderella calls the Duke that she wants to try the slipper, Lady Tremaine trips the Duke and causes the slipper to be broken. But it is revealed that Cinderella has its pair, and of course it fits!

And then Cinderella lives happily ever after.

DO YOU KNOW?
Cinderella’s and her prince’s castle becomes the trademark of Disneyland park. :)

More about The Three Musketeers

We have seen Walt Disney’s the Three Musketeers. We all love it. But there are another things about it which I want you to know… :)

Enjoy…

an A113 (an inside joke present as Easter egg in animated films) is seen in the carriage. The carriage in which Mickey is captured has a licence plate that says “A-113″.

Hidden Jokes in The Three Musketeers

Pete also quotes part of Mickey Mouse March when he brings Mickey to the island prison. He says, “Hey there! Hi there! Ho there! You’re as welcome as can be!”

When Pete leaves Mickey to drown, Pete also states that he is going to stop a show which he likes to call I Just Can’t Wait to Be King (the same song as The Lion King’s song when Simba tries to escape from Zazu).

In this movie, we can find Minnie has a bang (a fringe of hair, cut to hang or curl over the forehead). It’s her first and only bang that Minnie has.

Minnie’s bang

A hidden Mickey can be seen clearly when Donald and Goofy comes to rescue Mickey from drowning. When Mickey lets go of the breath, the bubbles float and make the forms of Mickey’s head (see pictures below).

Hidden Mickey inThe Three Musketeers

Mickey and Donald use their own clothes in this movie (red pants for Mickey and blue sailor suit for Donald). We can see Mickey’s original suit when he is in a fight with the Beagle Boys and his original suit is under his uniform.
Mickey wears his real clothes in Three Musketeers
While Donald’s real suit can be seen when he refuses to save Minnie. Mickey says, “As long as we wear our uniforms, we have to protect Princess Minnie.” That makes Donald tear his own uniform and use his original suit. But then after he decides to help Mickey, he wears the uniform again.
Donald’s Real Clothes in Three Musketeers

The Beagle Boys are re-modeled, and they are not voiced by the usual voice actors. They are more greyish, and two of them has British accent instead of French.

The Beagle Boys in The Three MusketeersThe Beagle Boys with the family

The opera in this movie contains songs from the musical The Pirates of Penzance by Arthur Sullivan and W.S. Gilbert.

Do you want to hear the Goofy hooler in this movie? Don’t worry! Goofy and Clarabelle make it for you… ;) Goofy hooler is a sound effect used frequently which shows Goofy’s cry when he is falling or being launched into the air. Bill Farmer, the current voice of Goofy, made the Goofy hooler in the Walt Disney Treasures - The Complete Goofy.

The part when Donald Duck says to Pete, “How’s this for a coward?” and poked him in the eyes was edited and removed when this movie was aired on Disney Channel and Toon Disney.

The film is adapted into a comic The Three Musketeers published by Gemstone Publishing. It shows a gag in the end when the Beagle Boys “Shorty” suggests to Pete that after they escape from the prison, they will rob the rich duck clan I heard about in Scotland.” Who is the duck they are talking about? Of course, they are talking about their everlasting rival, Mr. Scrooge McDuck.

Following my previous notes about Donald Duck entitled “Oh boy! Oh boy! Oh boy!”, I would like to review the first appearance of Donald Duck in history.

The Wise Little Hen

The Wise Little Hen

The Wise Little Hen was published in Silly Symphonies series on June 9, 1934. It is based on the fairy tale The Little Red Hen. It was animated by Art Babbitt, Dick Huemer, Dick Lundy, and Ward Kimball. The director is Bert Gillett and Wilfred Jackson. The story was also adapted into a comic strip by Ted Osborne and Al Taliaferro. The voice of the hen was starred by Florence Gill, Donald Duck was voiced by Clarence Nash, and Peter Pig was voiced by Pinto Colvig.

About The Story (spoiler warning)

The story is started when a hen and her children (the chicks) are looking someone to help them plant the corn. First they come to Peter Pig. But Peter Pig refuses her by saying that he has a stomachache. Mrs. Hen regrets it, but she don’t insist on Peter.

The Wise Little Hen - Peter makes excuse so he won't spend his time by helping Mrs. HenNext, Mrs. Hen and her chicks go to Donald’s place. He was asked the same thing, to help them plant the corn. But like Peter, Donald refuses to help because his stomach is sick.

In that case, Mrs. Hen plants the corn by herself, helped by her children. They work hard, while Peter and Donald are playing and not working. But still, when Mrs. Hen asks their help to cook, they refuse and say that their stomachs are still in pain.

Finally, Mrs. Hen and her children finish their cook. They are ready to eat those delicious meal. When Peter and Donald see the meal, they feel dizzy. They really want to eat. Their eyes are blur because of hunger. Mrs. Hen then asks them if they wanted to help her eat the meal. Peter and Donald agree with that (Donald says, “Oh boy! Oh boy! Oh boy!”). But what do they get from Mrs. Hen? Medicine for their stomachaches!!! Good for them! ;) So those who don’t want to work, they don’t deserve to get the harvest.

Following its success, Walt Disney Production decided to produce a television show called The Mickey Mouse Club in 1955. It was aired by the American Broadcasting Company. It was created by Walt Disney himself, revised and reformatted several times along in its series aired on ABC 1955-1959.

In 1950, the series were used to promote the Disneyland theme park. At first, it’s titled as Disneyland, but after Bill Walsh to take the control to develop the format, it became The Mickey Mouse Club. It became a variety show for children, with news, cartoon, music, and comedy. Mickey Mouse Club was hosted by Jimmie Dodd.

The show has a theme song, called The Mickey Mouse March, written by Jimmie Dodd and was reprised with the slower “it’s time to say goodbye” verse at the end of each episode. Later, Disney used the shorter version as the beginning of the show.

The Three Musketeers: All for One and One for All

Author: disneytalks Categories: Characters, Movies, Walt Disney

Like I’ve said in previous blog, I love Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy. And they are starring so many movies together. The last movie they starred together is The Three Musketeers.

The Three Musketeers Cover DVD

This movie is the animation adaptation of the The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas, perè. This movie is directed by Donovan Cook, produced by Disney Toon Studios. It was released in a form of VHS and DVD, and distributed by Buena Vista Home Entertainment.

The voice of the characters are still filled by some of the stars such as, Wayne Alwine as Mickey Mouse, Tony Anselmo as Donald Duck, and Bill Farmer as Goofy (as well as Pluto). We also can find another stars such as Russi Taylor as Minnie Mouse, Tress MacNeille as Daisy Duck, Jim Cummings as Pete, April Winchell as Clarabelle the Cow, Rob Paulsen as the Trobadour (a French-speaking turtle as the narrator), Maurice LaMarche and Jeff Bennett as the Beagle Boys.

In this movie, once again, Mickey Mouse, along with his friends, Donald Duck and Goofy, are together. It’s all started when they were little children, they were helped by the real Musketeers. Little Mickey was given a hat (although it was too big for him). Since then, Little Mickey, Little Donald, and Little Goofy always wanted to be the Musketeers. Until they have grown up, they still want to be the musketeers, although they live as the janitors (together with Mickey’s loyal dog, Pluto). Mickey still have the hat, and he is still hoping that someday they will become the Musketeers. The captain of the real Musketeers is Pete-Leg Pete. He tells the buddies why they won’t become the Musketeers: Mickey is too short, Donald is a coward, and Goofy is too clumsy.

While working as janitors, Mickey the Short, Donald the Cowards, and Goofy the Clumsy, are always dreaming about being the Musketeers

Until one day, the Princess of France, Minnie Mouse, are discussing with her lady-in-waiting, Daisy Duck about how Minnie wants to find her true love. Then when Minnie is taking a walk, The Beagle Boys tries to kill her. Minnie feels in danger and she asks Pete to protect her by giving the best musketeers as her bodyguards. The one that Minnie doesn’t know that the Beagle Boys are taking the order to kill by Pete. Pete is the bad-guy!!! Pete does intends to kill Minnie, so he can take over the whole France. That reason makes him to choose Mickey, Donald, and Goofy as Minnie’s bodyguards.

The Beagle Boys are trying to kill Princess Minnie

The friendship is challenged when finally the Beagle Boys successfully kidnap Princess Minnie. Donald, who is too coward to act, refuses to help Minnie. Mickey, who has already fallen in love with Minnie, wants to help her. Goofy, the clumsy, are lured by Clarabelle the Cow, Pete’s lieutenant, to leave his duty: guarding the palace.

Mickey is upset because Donald is too coward while guarding the palace

Can the Three Musketeers successfully protect the princess?
Can Mickey finally take Minnie into his arms?
Can Donald also make Daisy fall in love with him?
Or can Goofy find his true love?

Find it by yourselves! ;)
If you want to watch it, make sure you buy the original one.
I found a great package here… Watch The Three Musketeers while holding the doll! :D

Also allow me to share the wallpapers I download from its official website. All credits go to Walt Disney Production. :) Feel free to comment!
