I’m Being Enchanted!!!

Author: disneytalks Categories: Disney in Me, Movies, Walt Disney

I know, I know, it’s late already… But I love this movie so much! Well, actually what kind of Walt Disney movie I don’t like? :p

But this movie has reminded me that we have to dream! This movie is one of Walt Disney movies which makes me want to share all what Walt Disney has given to me since I was a little girl. It reminds me that we have to follow our dreams, no matter how hard it is, like Walt Disney had done before he died.

Enchanted has spelled all its audience (specially women, of course) to be enchanted by its charm, its romance, and its story. All my female friends love this movie like I do. We love the songs, we love Amy Adams as Giselle, we love Pip (OMG he is so… funny!!!), we hate Narcissa (of course, who doesn’t?), we love how Giselle thinks about dreams, and we hate the mouse and the cockroach.

The one which I often talk with my co-teachers is about how disgusting it is to have mice and cockroaches as our maids! Ugh… Yikes… Can’t imagine how gross it would be… The next one is Giselle’s way of calling her friends (Aaaaa…) We often copy the way she sings to be laughed at… And we also often sing I’ve been Dreaming of a True Love’s Kiss like Pip does when he tries to speak to Prince Edward.

The other thing that I concern from this movie is what Queen Narcissa means by saying, "to the place where there will be no happiness". And guess where she send Giselle? Our world (New York)!!! Well, according to this movie, there is no happiness in New York. No one cares about each other. It is rare to find someone who wants to help other people…

Come on, guys, aren’t we all ashamed that we cannot live well? This movie made me realize that we should not think about works all the time, but we have to enjoy our life, find our true love (get our true love’s kiss!). Keep in faith to what we have to believe in, and try to get it!

Have you found your true love? I hope so… ;)

Below is the clip from the original web of Enchanted. It is when Pip is miming Giselle, trying to tell Prince Edward about Nathaniel’s evil plan. This is my favorite part of the movie. so, enjoy…

Winnie The Pooh and Friends (click for the wallpaper) Who doesn’t know Winnie The Pooh? Walt Disney has made this character and its friends to a cartoon. The characters are based on A. A. Milne (1926) works, which was made for his son (it is portrayed into character Christopher Robin).

Winnie the Pooh and Tigger (in original version)

From all characters which are in Winnie the Pooh, I like Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore. First, Winnie the Pooh. I like him because I learn that I have to be proud of myself. Do you remember The Exercise Song which is sung by Pooh? The lyrics said, “I am short, fat, proud of that…” Well, I am fat, and my boyfriend says that I am short (because he is tall!! Unfair!!! :p) But Winnie the Pooh made me realize that even I am fat and short, but I can be cute like him… (I wish… hahaha…)

The next character I like is Eeyore. Perhaps he is the saddest character I’ve ever known. But it makes me feel pity for him, because he is never be noticed by everybody, even sometimes his friends forget his birthday… Well, I have experienced being forgotten by my friends, so I know how he feels… I am looking forward when Walt Disney will make The Eeyore Movie:D (the wallpaper is by Darin)

Eeyore (click to get the wallpaper)

Here below I enclosed the lyrics of Exercise Song by Winnie the Pooh. (It is often called as Up, Down, Touch the Ground!).

When I’m up, down and touch the ground
It puts me in the mood,
Up, down and touch the ground
In the mood for food (smack, smack)
I am stout, round and I have found
Speaking poundage wise
I improve my appetite
When I exercise

I am short, fat and proud of that
And so, with all my might
I up, down and up, down to
My appetite’s delight
While I’m up, down and touch the ground
I think of things to chew, like honey
With a hefty happy appetite
I’m a hefty happy Pooh
With a hefty happy appetite
He’s a hefty happy Pooh

Enjoy!

Camp with Mickey, Donald, and Goofy

Author: disneytalks Categories: Characters, Disney in Me, Movies, Walt Disney

I accidentally found this interesting gadget. VillaWare V5555-11 MICKEY Mornin Toaster. When I see this, I recall my memory when I was a little girl (because of the bread). The bread makes me remember about a cartoon by Walt Disney which is starred by Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck.

I remember when I was a little girl, I had watched a cartoon which is starred by Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy. The story begins with the view of house and beautiful hills. The rooster wakes everybody up, and then Mickey appears. He realizes that it is a beautiful day and then he wakes Goofy and Donald up. the house then becomes a van, and Goofy drives the van to another beautiful place. While Goofy is driving the van, Mickey is cooking the meal for his friends.

How’s about Donald? He is still sleeping. Then Mickey forces him to wake up by changing the bed into a bathtub. Donald then takes a bath, but the birds are watching him. Here, we can see Donald’s temper here, while he gets angry to the birds.

The funny scene can also be found when they are eating. Mickey rings the bell after he has finished his cooking. Goofy leaves his car drive by itself. They have different ways of eating, especially when they are eating the corn (they eat the corn line by line, just like a typewriter… :D ).

When finally Goofy realizes that he has left his car alone, he tries to reach the wheels again. Accidentally, he makes the connector between the car and the van be separated. So Mickey and Donald are falling down in the van, while Goofy doesn’t realize that he has lost his friends. The intense comes when Donald and Mickey gives their faith, hoping that they will survive. Finally, and magically, the van meets Goofy’s car again, and back in track, like nothing has happened before…

I love this cartoon so much, but unfortunately, I cannot find the movie except in Youtube (and it’s not in English… sorry). So, enjoy it…

About Turkish Delight

Author: disneytalks Categories: Movies, Walt Disney

When we are watching The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, we notice that Edmund Pevensie betrays his brother and sisters because of this food: Turkish Delight. Actually, what kind of food is the Turkish Delight?

turkishdelight

From Wikipedia, I found that Turkish Delight is from Istanbul. It was made from starch and sugar. Sometimes you can find the flavor of lemon, cinnamon, mint, rosewater, and sometimes it has characteristic pale pink color. It is soft, and like jelly, formed as cube which is covered with dust sugar. It is usually contains nuts like pistachio, hazelnut or walnuts.

Actually, I find difficulties to try Turkish Delight. I don’t know if it is same like in the movie, but I find it at Amazon. The name is Divan Turkish Delight with Pistachio.

Product Features:

  • 800 gr (28 oz) box with Velvet covered exotic design
  • Great as a gift item
  • Turkish Delight as seen in Narnia
  • Divan is the highest quality premium Turkish brand
  • Life Magazine picked us as the sole distributors of Turkish candy products

Ingredients
Sugar, Water, Corn Starch, Acidity Regulator, Hazelnuts, Colorants

So, enjoy it… :)

Georgie Henley - Lucy Pevensie

Author: disneytalks Categories: Biography, Characters, Movies, Walt Disney

Geogie Henley as Lucy Pevensie

I like Lucy Pevensie a lot. Maybe it is because I am a teacher so I like children a lot, I don’t know. That’s why when I see The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian trailer, I was astonished by her beauty. Georgie Henley is the one who takes part as Lucy Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia produced by Walt Disney and Walden Media Production. For her part as Lucy Pevensie in the film series, Georgie won the 2005 Phoenix Film Critics Award for "Best Performance by a Youth in a Lead or Supporting Role - Female".

Georgie Henley was born in Ilkley, Yorkshire, England, UK on 9 July 1995. Her real name is Georgia Laura Henley. Her parents are Helen and Mike Henley. Georgie is the last child from three sisters. Her older sisters are Rachael Henley (who plays as older Lucy Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe) and Laura Henley. Georgie is attending Bradford Grammar School and a part of Ilkley Upstagers’ Theatre Group. In this local theatre group Georgie appeared in the stage play Babes in the Wood (January 27 to February 4, 2006).

One of Georgie’s ‘brothers’ in Narnia, Skandar ‘Edmund Pevensie’ Keynes stated that he loved Georgie. Like quoted in IMDB, Skandar says,

"When I first met Georgie, she was very eager to talk. Georgie is great. She’s small and hilarious. To laugh at. I mean with - to laugh with."

Georgie is also still an innocent girl like Lucy. The director of Narnia, Andrew Adamson, gave each children an iPod to show his gratefulness to the children for being in his movie. Georgie directly thanked him from her deepest heart and then when Andrew was out of earshot, Georgie faced her mother and asked, "What is it?"

Lucy Pevensie, the character played by Georgie, is one of the main characters which becomes symbol of a child’s innocence in believing Jesus. From all human who have entered Narni, Lucy is the one who really believes in Narnia. She is the first Pevensie who enters Narnia in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and she is also the one who sees Aslan first in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

Do you know? Lucy is given two gifts by the Father Christmas in the first Wlt Disney’s series The Chronicles of Narnia. The first one is the magical cordial which can heal instantly. The second is a dagger, which can be used to defend herself ‘at great need’.

Skandar Keynes - Edmund Pevensie

Author: disneytalks Categories: Biography, Characters, Movies, Walt Disney

Skandar Keynes as Edmund Pevensie Edmund Pevensie, who becomes the traitor in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, is played by the 16-years boy, Skandar Keynes. Being born as Skandar Amin Casper Keynes in London September 5, 1991, this boy has parents name Randal Keynes (a writer) and Zelfa Cecil Hourani. His family has wonderful record of great work. His grandfather, Cecil Fadlo Hourani, is a famous writer of Lebanese descent and the brother of Albert Hourani (a well known writer and professor). Skandar Keynes is still the great-great-great grandson of the famous biologist Charles Darwin through his father. His sister, Soumaya Keynes is also famous because her appearances in BBC Radio 4.

His education is got from Anna Scher Theatre School (2000 to 2005) and now he attends the all-boys City of London School. When Skandar and his family in Beirut, Lebanon in summer 2006, they had to flee because of the war.

Although C. S. Lewiss made The Chronicles of Narnia as the portrayal of Christianity, Skandar "Edmund Pevensie" Keynes is not a Christian. He has stated that he is an atheist, even Edmund holds the important symbol of the sinful man whose sins were washed away by Jesus Christ’s sacrificing on the cross.

In The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Edmund have changed from a black sheep in his family to a better person. The word Edmund is taken from Anglo-Saxon, Eadmund, which means wealth and protection. Unlike his character in previous series who is easily tempted by Turkish Delight, here Edmund is the one who wants to believe Lucy when she says that she has seen Aslan. Besides, he is also helping Caspian fighting King Miraz. In this series, Edmund becomes more cooperative and loyal. He even wants to be under Peter’s guidance, which is very different from the previous series.

If you like Skandar Keynes or Edmund Pevensie, here below I also find some things interesting to be collected. ;)

Anna Popplewell - Susan Pevensie

Author: disneytalks Categories: Biography, Characters, Movies, Walt Disney

Anna Popplewell as Susan Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia Her real name is Anna Katherine Popplewell. She was born on 16 December 1988 to Andrew and Deborah Popplewell. Her father is a barrister and her mother is an immunologist. Anna has a Freddie Popplewell (Michael Darling in Peter Pan) and Lulu Popplewell (Love Actually and Love in a Cold Climate. Her paternal grandfather Sir Oliver Popplewell was a former High Court judge.

Anna loves drama since she was six. At that time, she attended drama classes at Allsorts Drama School. She also has neighborhood which supports her career as an actress. Her ‘brother’ in The Chronicles of Narnia, Skandar Keynes (Edmund Pevensie), is her neighbor in her real live. Skandar lives around the corner near Anna’s house. Then, Jeremy Sumpter, who acted as Peter Pan along with Anna’s brother, is her friend in the real life. Actually, Anna was auditioned to play in Peter Pan with his brother as Wendy Darling, but she lost to Rachel Hurd-Wood.

About her character as Susan Pevenie in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion. the Witch, and the Wardrobe and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Anna states that she could relate to Susan. They are same in some areas but they are different in another areas. She is very defensive about her character. If someone says that Susan is an outright cynic, she doesn’t agree with that. For her, there is a perfectly logical explanation about it. She also quotes,

“Each of the characters in ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’ has their own journey and Susan’s no different. Like Peter, she feels the obligation of looking after her younger brother and sister and it’s something that has made her grow up too fast - being saddled with all that responsibility. When she comes to Narnia, she thinks she’s too grown up to believe in it. But, through this adventure, she becomes more open to the idea of being in this magical land. By the end, it’s changed her for the better and she becomes unafraid of being a child. It’s a real journey for her.”

Liam Neeson - The Voice of Aslan

Author: disneytalks Categories: Biography, Characters, Movies, Walt Disney

Liam Neeson

"Let the children do a mistake and learn from that"

The wise Aslan is voiced by a famous actor, Liam Neeson. He has a real name as William John "Liam" Neeson. He was born on June 7, 1952. He became famous because his role in Schindler’s List as Oskar Schindler.

In The Chronicles of Narnia, Liam Neeson let his voice be heard as The Great Lion, Aslan. Aslan is the central character of Narnia series. Aslan is the only character who appears in all seven series. He is a talking lion, King of the Beasts, Son of the Emperor of The Sea, etc. Aslan is representing Jesus Christ in Christianity theology. Jesus is often called as The Lion of the tribe of Judah (Rev 5:5). The word Aslan itself is from Turkish which means Lion.

The similarity between Aslan and Jesus is for example that they died and rose again (Jesus rose from death for saving the human kind in the third day, and Aslan rose from the death for saving Edmund’s life). Then Aslan goes with Susan and Lucy to kill the evil, the White Witch. We will talk about it later. Or if you want, you can read about it in A Family Guide to Narnia: Biblical Truths in C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia or Finding God in the Land of Narnia (Saltriver).
