Mary Poppins in Your Life

Author: disneytalks Categories: Walt Disney

When I was a little girl, my aunties let me watch Walt Disney’s movies. One of them was Mary Poppins.  Who is Mary Poppins? What is she doing? Let me tell you about this movie…

Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins was first shown on August 29th, 1964. The duration of this movie is about 139 minutes. This movie is the combination between real person and animation. I think it is the first real person - animation movie in the world.

Mary Poppins is starred by Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins, Dick van Dyke (love this guy! very good singer!) as Bert, David Tomlinson as Mr. Banks, etc.

Actually, the idea of making this movie had appeared way before 1964. One night, Walt Disney took a story book from his daughter, Diane, ’s bed. The book is Mary Poppins by P. L Travers (1934). He asked Diane if the story was good, and Diane answered it so good that she persuade her dad to make a movie based on the story. However, it was very difficult for Walt Disney to buy the copyright of that book. It was 1960 when Walt suceeded of persuading the writer’s wife to sell the copyright with one condition: the movie had to be starred with real actors and actresses, not animation movie. However, this movie still has animation on it.

The story itself is about two little children named Jane (Karen Dotrice) and Michael (Matthew Garber) who caused so much trouble in their house. No nannies can raise them because they are too naughty for them. Then their dad, Mr. Banks, insists of finding the perfect nanny for them by put an advertisement on the news. Jane and Michael who know about it want to help their dad finding the nanny, and then tell their father what kind of nanny they want, asking for a fun, kind-hearted and caring nanny. Mr. Banks doesn’t agree with that, and he throws the notes to the fire. What he doesn’t know is that Mary Poppins reads the notes, and then she comes to Mr. Banks’ house and employ herself. With her, Jane and Michael spend wonderful and magical time, along with Bert, Mary Poppins’ friend.

The songs from Mary Poppins are great. I remember when I first watched it, I love the song entitled, "Spoonful of Sugar". I sang it everywhere and everytime. The other great songs from it are "Let’s Go Fly a Kite", "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!", etc.

Here below I give you wallpaper from the movie, and also some interesting stuffs from Mary Poppins.
